Who’s afraid of Knausgård? Nordic Theatre evening with A man in love

Scandinavian House and Na zábradlí Theatre will present as part of the Nordic theatre evenings project an accompanying event to the staging of the novel My Struggle: A Man in Love by Norwegian writer Karl Ove Knausgård. The theatre performance on Thursday 11th December will be followed by a discussion with actors and creative team. Scenographer Marek Cpin and the actors of the main roles Simona Lewandowska and Miloslav König will participate. The discussion will be moderated by theatre specialist Karolína Stehlíková.

“For the first time in my life I was completely happy.”

A written reality show, an autobiographical confession or the event of the 21. century – all of that can be said about the six-part novel series My struggle by Karl Ove Knausgård. The topic of this work is life itself, everyday tasks and extraordinary moments. My struggle is not only the story of a writer, but also a declaration about all of us, our feelings and thoughts which we often don’t even admit to ourselves.

The discussion will take place after the performance in the theatre hall from approximately 20:55 to 21:30. The entrance to the discussion is included in price of the ticket to the performance.

Theatre evenings or Who is afraid of…?

In cooperation with selected theatres introducing texts of Scandinavian authors, the Scandinavian House has launched a series of Nordic Theatre Evenings. We would like the audience to get a deeper insight into the Scandinavian drama, that might not be as popular as the Nordic crime fiction, but can become similarly addictive. Do not be afraid to start tracking the Nordic theatre in the Czech Republic! Unusual horizons and views of the Nordic landscape guaranteed. No need for skis.

The events are organised as commented theatre performances and consist of e. g. a lecturer’s introduction before the performance or a discussion of a various kind, for example sharing of impressions of the play. The introduction provides information about the author, the performed text and a broader context of the piece, or can even familiarise the audience with the performing tradition of more famous, repeatedly staged dramatic texts. After the performance, there is an opportunity to discuss it together. The Theatre Evenings take place in different Prague, Brno and other theatres 2-4 times a year, depending on the current programmes.

The cycle Nordic Theatre evenings is part of Nordic literature in the heart of Europe project, which takes place with the financial support of the city of Prague and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
