The Library is located within a five-minute walking distance from the Hradčanská and Dejvická metro stations. You will find it between the café Kafemat and the flower shop Green Decor Dejvice.
To enter, ring the doorbell located at the entrance on the left. The doorbell is marked with the sign “Skandinávský dům”. Once the buzzer rings, go through the swinging door and descend to the basement, where the librarian welcomes you on the left-hand side through an open door.
There is an elevator available for descending to the basement, but please note that the library is not fully wheelchair accessible.

Regular opening hours (excluding summer and Christmas holidays):
Mon 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Thu 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Closed on public holidays.
Visits outside of regular opening hours can be arranged individually in exceptional cases via email at knihovna@skandinavskydum.cz or by phone at +420 732 669 704.
How to Become a Reader
The library offers on-site reading services to all visitors, and lending privileges to members of the Scandinavian House.
Membership Registration
- Fill in the application form – either directly in the library or by sending it to petr@skandinavskydum.cz.
- Pay the annual membership fee – either in person at the library or by conducting the bank transfer to the Scandinavian House account 2901010758/2010. Please include “membership” and your name in the message for the recipient.
- After registering, you will receive your library card.
- Being a member, you will not only be able to borrow books but also enjoy discounted admissions to the events organized by the Scandinavian House.
Before registering, we recommend reading the Library Rules (in Czech, only).
Membership Renewal

About The Scandinavian House Library
The library offers seating, Wi-Fi access, and QR code payment options. It specializes primarily in fiction – both translations into Czech and original texts in Nordic languages – but you will also find academic literature: such as history and literary studies, or travel guides to the Nordic countries. We also offer the latest titles, including many crime novels and children’s books, with no long reservation queues compared to other libraries.
The Library establishes and maintains the following collections:
- Fiction written originally in Nordic languages (Danish, Estonian, Faroese, Finnish, Greenlandic, Icelandic, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Saami, Swedish) and translated to Czech, Slovak and languages spoken worldwide
- Fiction written in Nordic languages (Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish)
- Fiction translated to Nordic languages
- Non-fiction literature about the Nordic countries, especially about their culture, history and languages
- Non-fiction written in Nordic languages

History
The Library of the Scandinavian House is a publicly accessible specialist library operated by the registered association,The Scandinavian House. On February 7, 2007, it was officially registered with the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic under registration number 6282/2007.
In the first half of 2008, the Clavius library system had been acquired by the Library of the Scandinavian House, being funded from the grant obtained from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. In 2012, the catalogue had been digitalized in electronic form, enabling online book searches and access to personal accounts. Futhermore, we had also commenced contributing to the Czech Union Catalogue.
