A book as an advent calendar
Were you charmed by The snow sister or Night express? Come and get into the Christmas mood at a talk about the phenomenon of Nordic advent reading, or books which have exactly 24 chapters, one for each day. We will also focus on other books that are inseparable from Christmas in the North, and we will touch on other Nordic traditions.
Helena Březinová will introduce a “catalogue of winter monsters”, A Christmas bestiary by writing duo John Kenn Mortensen and Benni Bødker and the canonical Icelandic novel Advent by Gunnar Gunnarsson, which was translated to Czech by Helena Kadečková. Markéta Hejkalová will introduce her newest literary work, a story for children called Lost in Lapland, which is about Eliška, who is searching for her lost mother above the Arctic Circle. Marie Voslářová will talk about the complex history connected to the release of a forgotten gem from the work of the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, The Tomten, illustrated by Kitty Crowther.
Moderated by Michal Švec; excerpts read by Barbora Švýcarská.
In Czech.
Free entrance.
