A lecture about Nordic Christmas traditions with a focus on Denmark will take place in the Library centre u Vokolků. The programme will begin at 15:30 in the graphic studio with the making of typical Danish Christmas decorations and will continue with a lecture in the reading room at 16:30.
Do you want to know what kind of cookies are baked on Christmas in the North? Whether Nordic people decorate the Christmas tree? Which traditional foods are eaten at Christmas dinner? What are the so called Christmas comics? Which traditions, customs and superstitions are connected to the period of the end of the year?
At the lecture you’ll find out many interesting facts about both the traditional and the modern Christmas in the North, this time with a special focus on Denmark – the country which currently holds the presidency of the European Union. The lecture will be accompanied by thematic pictures and by Nordic Christmas music, which will create a true festive atmosphere. Starring Jitka Jindřišková and Michal Švec from Scandinavian House.

The participants will get a chance to make handmade Danish intertwined Christmas hearts (julehjerter) – a traditional ornament, which is an essential part of every Danish household at Christmas.
