The Snow Sister (Snøsøsteren, 2018) is a wonderful story full of beautiful illustrations, which all Christmas-lovers are granted to enjoy. The decorated Christmas tree, candles, the smell of tangerines and oranges: for Julian, the Christmas used to be the most magical time of the year. Though this year, all is different, as his family is mourning the loss of his older sister. But then Julian meets Hedvika, a girl with the broadest smile in the world. It is her who reminds Julian how beautiful Christmas can be and brings back the hope that Christmas will arrive even to Julian’s house.
Karolína Stehlíková studied theatre studies and Norwegian language and literature in Brno. She is now working at Masaryk university’s department of theatre studies. Most of her translations from Norwegian are plays, specialised literature about theatre and, sometimes, prose. She has translated the works of Henrik Ibsen, Jon Fosse, Fredrik Brattberg, Karin Fossum and others. With three other colleagues, she runs the publishing house Elg and in 2009, she was a part of the team that started the Moravian branch of the Scandinavian House.
The partner of the event are the Czech translators of the North – an organisation uniting the translators from the Nordic languages in the Czech Republic.
The event takes place as a part of the literary project of the Scandinavian House in Prague, which has in the year 2020 been financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, Prague Municipality and Statutory City Brno.
