Following the Reindeer Tracks in Northern Lapland with Harri Ahonen

Embark on a journey to a land where silence is only interrupted by the wind, the rustling of reindeer hooves, and the occasional muttering of tourists who underestimated the northern weather.

Finnish guide, author, and photographer Harri Ahonen will take you through the most beautiful trails in Northern Lapland, sharing his experiences on how to survive in the wilderness without being adopted by a herd of reindeer. You’ll receive practical tips on planning your route, selecting the right gear, and surviving in conditions where a café is as rare as a mobile signal. And if you’re worried about meeting the cute but unyielding local inhabitants, Harri will show you how to give way to them on the trail – because in Lapland, the reindeer always have the right of way!

Harri Ahonen – The Man Who Knows Where to Step

If Scandinavia had a guru of hiking, it would be Harri Ahonen. Harri has explored and meticulously mapped thousands of kilometers of trails across Finland, Sweden, and Norway. He is the author of popular books on Nordic hiking, such as Trekking in Northern Scandinavia and Hiking in Finland, which are invaluable guides for all lovers of the northern wilderness. In addition to writing, he also gives lectures and presentations, sharing his experiences and survival tips—like how to avoid bogs and mosquitoes the size of helicopters. If you ever go on a hike with him, you can be sure you’ll reach your destination—and along the way, you’ll learn where to find the best spots for coffee in the middle of nowhere.

The event is organized by the Brno branch of the Scandinavian House in cooperation with the Jiří Mahen Library.
