Sweet&Read Nordic

You’ve probably already heard of cinnamon buns, but do you also know what desserts are made in Iceland or what pastries are eaten in Greenland? Come and taste sweet treats from different parts of the North and listen to thematic excerpts from Nordic literature!

We invite you to a tasting of desserts inspired by traditional recipes from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Greenland. Kristina Lund, also known as Děvče u plotny, who is a lover of Nordic cuisine, will introduce her cookbook Sladká severská kuchařka. Besides talking about what is baked in each country and  how such a book is written and published, we will prepare sweet treats for you based on the recipes from Kristina’s cookbook. You can look forward to Greenlandic raisin pastries, Icelandic dessert with skyr, Danish almond cookies, Norwegian brown bars and Swedish oat balls.

The event will be hosted by Hana Hochmanová, who will talk about Nordic books and their translations currently available in Czech bookshops. The tasting of sweet treats will be accompanied by excerpts from selected Nordic titles read by actress Kateřina Jebavá. You can look forward to Greenlandic myths, a trip to Argentina from the book Mr Saito’s Traveling Cinema by Annette Bjergfeldt, a quirky take on a Christmas dinner from the novel Never, Ever, Ever by Linn Strømsborg or a glimpse into the production of chocolate pralines from Gazebo by the Pond by Hanna Blixt.

Coffee and other beverages will be available for purchase directly at the café.

The event will take place in Czech.

The capacity of the café is limited. Therefore, reserve your seat for the event via sending an e-mail to the e-mail address katerina@skandinavskydum.cz. Please put “Sweet&Read” as the subject of the e-mail.
