Who’s afraid of Trier? Theatre evening with The Boss of It All

The Scandinavian House in Prague in cooperation with Šumperk Theatre put on the stage Lars von Trier’s movie The Boss of It All from 2006 as a part of the Nordic Theatre Evenings project. Michal Švec will shortly introduce the drama and its context beforehand, focusing on Lars von Trier’s work and Danish culture in general.

Ravn is both a managing director and owner of a company but he successfully keeps this secret from his colleagues who take him for an ordinary employee.

He can thus blame the imaginary boss that no one has ever met for all unpopular decisions. Only now, when he tries to sell the company, he needs to find someone who could pretend to be the boss. Who better for such a role than an unknown and underrated actor!

Kristoffer is happy to take on the role and his enthusiasm grows by the day with more and more tasks… Yet, nothing is as simple as it seemed at the start. For starters, it looks like Ravn told each of the employees a different story about the boss and to top it off Kristoffer’s former wife shows up. Above all, Kristoffer decides to act in the spirit of his favorite playwright Gambini!

A charactertistic comedy The Boss of It All is far from boring, whether you are a fan of IT or monologues of the Chimney Sweep in the Town without Chimneys!

Show length: 2 hrs 5 min including intermission.

The introduction will at 18:30 in the foyer of the theatre and last about half an hour.

The entrance to the introduction is a part of the ticket for the whole play.

Both the show and the debate will be in Czech.

More information about the performance and tickets can be found at the theatre’s website (in Czech only).

Theatre Evenings or Who is afraid of…?

In cooperation with selected theatres introducing texts of Scandinavian authors, the Scandinavian House has launched a series of Nordic Theatre Evenings. We would like the audience to get a deeper insight into the Scandinavian drama, that might not be as popular as the Nordic crime fiction, but can become similarly addictive. Do not be afraid to start tracking the Nordic theatre in the Czech Republic! Unusual horizons and views of the Nordic landscape guaranteed. No need for skis.

The events are organised as commented theatre performances and consist of e. g. a lecturer’s introduction before the performance or a discussion of a various kind, for example sharing of impressions of the play. The introduction provides information about the author, the performed text and a broader context of the piece, or can even familiarise the audience with the performing tradition of more famous, repeatedly staged dramatic texts. After the performance, there is an opportunity to discuss it together. The Theatre Evenings take place in different Prague and Brno theatres 2-4 times a year, depending on the current programmes.

The events are organized with the financial support of statutory town Brno, Prague City Hall and the Ministry of Culture in the Czech Republic.
