What can you look forward to in autumn?

Even though we are all taking a break and heading north during the summer, preparations for cultural events in autumn have already begun. What can you look forward to? Keep reading.

The Nordic Days festival is always the highlight of the whole year. We are hereby proudly announcing its ninth year. This year’s topic is going to be the taboo: the things that have seldom been discussed in public, such as the sexual orientation, eroticism, violence, discrimination or death in children‘s literature. The whole festival is taking place at the end of October. Finnish author Jussi Valtonen (They Know Not What They Do) and Swedish children‘s author Pernilla Stalfelt (The Death Book)  have accepted our invitations. And we are also going to project a few films, such as  Something Must Break, a gritty story about Sebastian, a twenty years old androgynous boy.

From the 15th to 19th October 2018, Divadlo Kolowrat hosts a festival dedicated to late Ingmar Bergman, with several plays based on Ingmar Bergman’s works and a non-stop reading of Berman’s texts. The Scandinavian House in Prague will participate with two special events: a debate about Bergman as a theatre director, and with a launch party for Bergman’s short stories, translated by Zbyněk Černík (Kniha Zlín). And last but not least: The Theatre Evenings enriched with debates and educational excursions are going to continue after the summer break: The Danish Civil War 2018–2024 is amongst them.

You can also look forward to several literature evenings: The Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia is going to be remembered with the poems of Finnish poet Eeva-Liisa Manner, and at the beginning of October, there’s going to be another popular scenic reading: Travels in the North – Finland. And at the end of November: The Icelandic afternoon (readings from Icelandic and Faroese literature included!).

And as usual, every first Thursday (nowhere but in Evald cinema, of course) from September to December is going to be dedicated to Nordic Film Thursdays – our unique project with Nordic films that have not been distributed to the Czech republic before.

We look forward to seeing you at our events!
