Nordic literary salon online: The saga of the jomsvikings

The host of the Literary salon online in May will be a researcher and translator from Old Norse Marie Novotná. We will talk about the book The saga of the jomsvikings, which is an old literary relic written around the year 1200. The Czech translation was published in 2025 by Faculty of Arts of the Charles University. The Old Norse saga tells a story about the “largest Slavic city” at the mouth of the Oder, where vikings lived for almost a hundred years. Moderated by Michal Švec.

You can watch the live stream on Tuesday 26th May 2026 from 20:00 on the Scandinavian House Facebook page. The recording will later be made available on our YouTube channel.

The partner of Nordic literary salon online is Czech Translators of the North – an association that brings together translators of fiction from Northern languages to Czech. The event is part of the Scandinavian House’s year-long project Nordic Literature in the Heart of Europe 2025, which is held with financial support by the Prague City Hall and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
