The host of the Nordic literary salon online in July will be the translator from Swedish Irena Lysáčková. We will discuss the book Suicide for beginners by Christian Rück, which won the prestige August award in the category of best non-fiction book in 2024. Written by a psychiatrist, the book offers a look at the cultural history of suicide with the help of interviews with experts, testimonials from people who lost someone, and entwined with the author’s own experience. It is a book that will shake you, but also give you the hope and courage to live a meaningful life. Moderated by Petr Kujal.
You can watch the live stream on Monday 15th June 2026 from 20:00 on the Scandinavian House Facebook page. The recording will later be made available on our YouTube channel.
The partner of Nordic literary salon online is Czech Translators of the North – an association that brings together translators of fiction from Northern languages to Czech. The event is part of the Scandinavian House’s year-long project Nordic Literature in the Heart of Europe 2025, which is held with financial support by the Prague City Hall and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
