After almost 40 years as a school caretaker, Hannes retires and is having a hard time to come to terms with this newly aquired “freedom”. He is not used to share his feelings with anyone so he bottles up. It’s mostly his closests that experience consequences of his disagreeable behaviour – his wife Anna and their two already grown-up children who visit them but try to minimize encounters with the father. But then, an unexpected event strikes the family and turns their lives upside down. How will they, and particularly Hannes, cope?

Volcano is the first feature movie by the talented director Rúnar Rúnarsson who is also known for the award-winning film Sparrows (Þrestir, 2015) or the short movies The Last Farm (Síðasti bærinn, 2004) or Two Birds (Smáfuglar, 2008).
