Swedish black & romantic comedy about one summer spent at undertaker‘s
Summer 1958. Two orphaned children Mårten and Annika are getting ready for their summer holiday. Their summer foster-father is a rather bad-tempered bachelor that makes his living as undertaker. He is completely at wit‘s end when it comes to child guidance. His educational methods feel rather odd and do not really help him to befriend the children. Mårten and Annika realise step-by-step that Mr. Johansson needs a nice and gentle lady by his side. It seems that this grumpy foster father actually is capable of showing gentle feelings, but the things don‘t go as smoothly as Mårten and Annika hope…
A Summer Tale is one of Ulf Malmros‘ earliest films. That‘s maybe why this sweet-and-sour story is settled into director´s born village Molkom. Ulf Malmros usually tells a story of a bit extraordinary characters – teenage punk girls or middle-aged metalheads.
The screening will be introduced by a very short lecture about director Ulf Malmros.
