The film was directed in 1957 by Valentin Vaala and it was already the third film adaptation of the play by Aleksis Kivi. The comedy depicts the story of Esko, a young shoemaker, who can help himself to an inheritance: provided that he gets married earlier than Jaana, his foster sister. Esko therefore begins the journey to the one that he wants to take as his wife. Will he be successful? The colourful Finnish countryside is a good addition to the funny characters and the original language of the original script.
The introduction to the movie by Michal Švec will take place on Thursday, 7th of May 2020 from 19.00. He will talk about the context of the film, the earlier adaptations and much more. Registrations at info@skandinavskydum.cz.
The original movie with English (or Swedish subtitles) can be watched at any time under this link.
