The topic of already the twelfth year of the festival of Nordic culture is facts versus fiction. Nordic Days 2021 will begin with a (first-ever in the Czech Republic in cinemas!) screening of the Swedish documentary Stieg Larsson: The Man Who Played With Fire. Other movies screened as a part of the festival are The Idealist, a Danish thriller based on a true story, and the Norwegian drama The 12th Man about Norwegian resistance during the Nazi occupation and survival in the harsh nature.
The main guests of the festival are Elisabeth Åsbrink, the Swedish journalist and the author of And in the Vienna Woods the Trees Remain: The Heartbreaking True Story of a Family Torn Apart by War and the Lithuanian author Alvydas Šlepikas, whose book My name is Marytė has recently been translated into Czech. The discussion will take place in both Prague and Brno, with the aim to show the different means to show how differently WWII and its aftermath have been described in fiction and non-fiction.
Reality and fiction in literature will also be discussed in the other two prepared debates: the introduction to the newest titles Old-Norse literature (Prague) and the personality and work of the Finnish classic Mika Waltari (Brno).
