Lecture: Finland and Lapland

The happiest country in the world fascinates with its standard of living, world-class education and advanced emancipation. Finland has a lot to offer not only to its residents but also to tourists. Tranquil landscape of deep forests with nearly two thousand lakes that turn into frozen plains in winter, perfect for peaceful walks or cross-country skiing. The boardwalks wind through marshes coloured like an autumn forest. In addition to its unspoiled nature, Finland is also famous for its architecture, ranging from wooden towns and churches to modern buildings.

In Lapland, bare mountain peaks with unrivaled views tempt you to go for a hike, or you can also explore the wilderness by kayak or on snowshoes. You can meet a reindeer at almost every turn, or you can meet dogs at husky farms, and in winter, they will take you through snow-covered plains on dog sleds. Lovers of inorganic nature will also find something to enjoy, for example in the last open amethyst mine in Europe, where you can dig up your own gemstone and take it home. A visit to the places connected to Sami, indigenous people of the far North, is also a wonderful experience.

Michal Švec, CK Periscope guide, chairperson of Scandinavian House and translator from Finnish, will take you on this tour of Finland.
