Olof Olsson: The History of Disco
Date: 9.1.2010, 7pm
Venue: D.i.v.o Institut (Na Petříně 232/24, Kolín 2)
the history of disco traces the development of the music, and—not the least—the emergence of disco as a new kind of ([yes, indeed] radical) social space. it departs from olof’s opening lecture of copenhagen's legendary parlour room in march 2007. the parlour room lecture lasted, due to its improvised nature, for nearly three hours. the 2010 version will be in the spirit of the original for a condensed 120 minutes, including musical illustrations. /// a portable, yet highly efficient sound system, consisting of carefully selected audio components, will provide superb audio quality.
/// olof studied philosophy and languages at lund university before getting his art education at the national college of arts crafts and design in stockholm, and the royal academy of fine arts in copenhagen—where he graduated in 2002. /// olof lost his heart to disco one cold january night in 1979, and worked extensively as a dj on various pirate and community radio stations in the 1980s. he shares his one-room apartment in copenhagen with 6000 vinyl records. /// the parlour room lecture can be downloaded here: part one: http://www.sendspace.com/file/c5baxw /// part two: http://www.sendspace.com/file/iz72n5 /// some previous projects by olof: http://www.laloko.org/olsson.html ; some previous projects by olof & daniel salomon: http://www.laloko.org/uk/framesetUK.html /// bookings: mail: olof@olof.cc ; phone: +4550300201
